【トライアルツアー / Trial Tour】見えない川をたどる、渋谷の物語 / Trace Shibuya’s Stories Along a Hidden River

＊本取組みは、通常のシブヤ大学の授業とは異なり、2026年1月末からAirbnbオリジナル体験として提供予定の「渋谷のまち歩きツアー」に先立って開催する、トライアルツアーです。
＊This program is a trial tour, held in advance of the “Shibuya Walking Tour,” which is scheduled to be offered as an Airbnb Originals Experience starting in late January 2026. Please note that this is different from regular Shibuya University classes. 

このたびシブヤ大学では、Airbnbからお声がけをいただき、「Airbnbオリジナル体験」のホストとして、渋谷のまち歩きツアーをスタートすることになりました。
本ツアーは、主に渋谷を訪れる海外の方々に向けた、新しいまち歩きのプログラムです。

Shibuya University Network has been invited by Airbnb to serve as a host for an Airbnb Originals Experience, and we are excited to launch a new walking tour of Shibuya.
This tour is designed primarily for international visitors to Shibuya and offers a new way to explore the city through local perspectives.

ツアーの本格スタートに先立ち、今回はシブヤ大学の学生登録者のみなさんと、そのお知り合いの海外の方を対象に、トライアルツアーを実施します。
Airbnbでの新しい取り組みに関心のある方、海外の方と一緒にまち歩きをしてみたい方は、ぜひツアー参加者としてご参加いただき、より良いプログラムづくりにご協力いただけたら嬉しいです。

Before the official launch, we will hold a trial tour for registered Shibuya University Network  students and their international friends or acquaintances.
If you are interested in Airbnb’s new initiatives or would like to experience a walking tour together with people from overseas, we warmly invite you to join the tour and help us shape a better program through your participation and feedback.

このトライアルツアーでは、東京の中でも特にダイナミックに変化してきた渋谷の、重なり合う歴史の層をひも解いていきます。
今は見えなくなった「渋谷川」を手がかりに、原宿・表参道・渋谷の3つのエリアを歩きながら、それぞれの場所でどのような文化が育まれてきたのかを辿ります。
This tour reveals the layered history behind one of Tokyo’s most dynamic cities. We trace the hidden Shibuya River through Harajuku, Omotesando, and Shibuya to see how each area shaped its culture.

＜トライアルツアーで巡るポイント＞
1. 明治神宮の“人工の森”を知る / Discover Meiji Jingu Manmade Forest
渋谷川の源流である明治神宮からツアーをスタートします。
100年以上前に人の手でつくられたこの森が、どのような思いのもとで育まれ、今の姿へと受け継がれてきたのかを学びます。
We begin the tour at Meiji Jingu, the source of the Shibuya River.
Learn how this forest, carefully created by human hands over a century ago, was shaped by a clear vision and has been nurtured and passed down to its present form.

2. 原宿カルチャー発祥の地を歩く / Walk Harajuku’s Cultural Birthplace
世界的にも知られる原宿のまちを歩きながら、若者文化や創造性、ファッションがどのようにしてこの街独自のカルチャーを形づくってきたのかを探ります。
As we walk through the world-famous streets of Harajuku, we explore how youth culture, creativity, and fashion came together to shape the area’s unique and influential identity.

3. 表参道の歴史を学ぶ / Learn Omotesando’s History
明治神宮の参道として始まった表参道が、第二次世界大戦後、どのようにして現在のファッションストリートへと変化していったのか。その背景にある歴史をひもときます。
We trace the history of Omotesando, from its origins as an approach to Meiji Jingu to its transformation into a major fashion street after World War II, uncovering the stories behind this change.

4. 見えない川の上にあるキャットストリートを散策する / Stroll Cat Street on a Hidden River
暗渠化された渋谷川の跡をたどりながらキャットストリートを歩きます。
今は見えなくなった川の流れを想像しつつ、渋谷へと向かいます。
Strolling along Cat Street, we follow the former path of the now-hidden Shibuya River.
As we head toward Shibuya, we imagine the river that once flowed beneath our feet.

5. 谷に栄えたまち・渋谷で締めくくる / Finish in Shibuya, a City in a Valley
谷底に発展した渋谷駅の周辺でツアーを締めくくります。
現在進行中の大規模再開発を通して、変化し続ける渋谷の姿と、その背景にある歴史を感じます。
We conclude the tour in the area around Shibuya Station, a city that developed at the bottom of a valley.
Through ongoing large-scale redevelopment, we reflect on Shibuya’s constant transformation and the history that continues to shape it.


＜タイムスケジュール / Schedule＞
10:30　CAFE杜のテラス前集合・イントロダクション / CAFE Mori no Terrace – Meet-up & Introduction
10:45　まち歩きツアー開始 / Walking tour begins
13:00　参加者の皆さんからのフィードバック / Feedback session with participants
13:30　渋谷駅付近解散 / Tour ends near Shibuya Station

＊ツアーは全編英語で行います。
＊荒天の場合は開催中止とします。開催判断は前日の正午までにシブヤ大学事務局よりご連絡します。
＊The tour will be conducted entirely in English.
＊In case of severe weather, the tour may be canceled. The final decision will be announced by the Shibuya University Network office by 12:00 PM on the day before the tour.
